WEEKLY ACTION EMAIL #9

Dear Fellow New Mexican,

THIS WEEK IN BRIEF:

Call Governor Martinez at (505) 476-2200 to let her know that you want to see these bills become law:
• SB259 NO FIREARMS FOR ORDERS OF PROTECTION SUBJECTS

• SB121 NO CONVERSION THERAPY

THIS WEEK IN DETAIL:

This legislative session has ended. The following bills made it through the Roundhouse, and are headed for Governor Martinez's desk. The Governor loves to yield her veto power, but let's show her how unpopular a veto to these bills would be.

After much debate in both chambers, lawmakers approved Senate Bill 259, which would require people under domestic violence restraining orders to relinquish their firearms. Sen Joseph Cervantes, D-Las Cruces sponsored the bill.

The executive director of Equality New Mexico, a gay rights group, lobbied for Senate Bill 121, which passed. This bill would ban conversion therapy, the practice of trying to change a minor’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Sen. Jacob Candelaria, D-Albuquerque sponsored the bill.

Call Governor Martinez at (505) 476-2200 to let he know that you want to see these bills become law:

• SB259 NO FIREARMS FOR ORDERS OF PROTECTION SUBJECTS

• SB121 NO CONVERSION THERAPY

Thank you for all you are doing!

In solidarity,
Amelia + Marisa
