Weekly Action Email #1

Thank you so much for signing up for the New Mexico is Watching Weekly Action Email!

For our very first action we have decided to address the fracking of public lands in Greater Chaco.  Did you know that 91% of public lands in the northwest corner of New Mexico have been leased for drilling?  We didn't either.  Public lands, ESPECIALLY those in an area with such cultural significance, deserve our protection.

RIGHT NOW, the Farmington office of the BLM is taking public comments on a plan to allow even more fracking in this area.  Please click on the link below and write them a short message (please--in your own words--it's important!) about why they should NOT allow new leases, and how they should allow existing, undeveloped leases to expire, and how very important it is that they incorporate tribal consultation with any affected tribes into their process:

And as an extra credit action this week, we are including an action from the women's march organizers who are proposing 10 actions for the first 100 days:

This week they are asking everyone to write your senators a postcard and tell them what it is that matters to you the MOST.  We have made a LOT of phone calls to our senators in the last few months, but a postcard is personal, visual, and powerful.

You can write to our senators here:

303 Hart Senate Office Building

Washington DC 20510

531 Hart Senate Office Building

And if you are a twitter or instagram user, you can take a photo of your postcard and share it with the hashtag #WhyIMarch

And lastly, if you are so inclined, please share our website nmiswatching.com on social media. The greater our numbers, the greater our impact! And thank you so much for standing with us! This is just the beginning!

In Solidarity,

Marisa and Amelia
